What we do

We don’t advise from the sidelines: we take part in the project.

Every min­ing oper­a­tion accu­mu­lates residues: spent leach ore, legacy tail­ings, metal-bear­ing solu­tions, ores with no route to mar­ket. Making use of what they con­tain is not part of its core busi­ness. These residues hold value, but recov­er­ing it takes time, cap­i­tal and exper­tise that the com­pany would rather devote to what it does best.

That is where Newtec comes in. We study the prob­lem, find the tech­ni­cal route that solves it, from con­ven­tional pro­cesses such as flota­tion to less con­ven­tional hydromet­al­lur­gi­cal tech­nolo­gies, and put it into practice.

What sets us apart is that we invest and share the risk with the owner of the resource, so they don’t have to carry it alone. We struc­ture the project, secure the financ­ing, bring in the right part­ners, lock in the sale of the prod­uct, and the client shares in the profits.

How we work

We are involved from start to finish.

  1. We find the solution

    We char­ac­ter­ize the mate­rial or the prob­lem and assess the pos­si­ble routes, proven or new, until we find one that works.

  2. We share the risk

    We put our own cap­i­tal into test­ing and devel­op­ment. With the risk shared, the client can move for­ward with­out bet­ting it all.

  3. We build the project

    We define the vehi­cle, secure financ­ing and bring together the team and part­ners each case needs.

  4. We sell and share

    We find a mar­ket for the prod­uct, and the client shares in the results of the business.

Where we add value

Our strongest expertise is hydrometallurgy, but it is not the only one.

Spent ore and tailings

Recovery of cop­per and other met­als from pre­vi­ously pro­cessed or stock­piled material.

Solutions and process water

Capture of met­als from solu­tions and process water through ion exchange and sol­vent extraction.

Copper salts

Production of cop­per sul­fate pen­tahy­drate and other cop­per salts from sec­ondary resources.

Ores and concentrates

Ore pro­cess­ing and pro­duc­tion of cop­per, gold and molyb­de­num concentrates.

Other waste streams

We assess waste of other ori­gins when­ever we see a tech­ni­cal and com­mer­cial path to give it value.

Over the past two years we have taken projects from idea to oper­a­tion, with a team that brings expe­ri­ence in uncon­ven­tional pro­cesses, in large com­pa­nies and in small-scale mining.

What we have built

Neomin, Illapel

We devel­oped the busi­ness behind a plant that treats spent leach ore to pro­duce con­cen­trated cop­per solu­tions and cop­per sul­fate: we took the pro­posal to the owner of the resource and brought together the tech­nol­ogy and the partners.

Ores and flotation in Illapel

We mar­ket cop­per and molyb­de­num con­cen­trates, buy cop­per ores that had no out­let in the area, and are pre­par­ing a new flota­tion oper­a­tion in Choapa Province.

Ion exchange and elec­trowin­ning (IX-EW) plant to recover cobalt from raf­fi­nate and other inter­me­di­ate solutions.

From retail to mining

We have been sup­pli­ers to the min­ing indus­try and know how large com­pa­nies buy and how they work.

We are now pre­par­ing to bring this expe­ri­ence to new mine sites.
